I enjoy operating from home and out portable in the car and on foot.
I've been licenced since 2013, I did a course for the foundation at Southport and District, then self studied for the intermediate, sat the exam at West Manchester radio club. I self studied for my full during Covid in early 2020 and sat the exam at home.
I'm within range of a bunch of pretty busy repeaters at home, I can hear Manchester City (the little one with the grass runway) airport ground, bits of the ship canal, and Manchester International airport so there's plenty to listen to most of the time.
Like most people, I live on a normal street and have a normal sized garden, so my antenna are all compromised. I dream about moving to the country to a nice house with a 5 acre garden and a ton of tall trees but until then, I work with what I have!
I'm a fan of ADS-B, I think it's amazing that I can tune into air traffic and decode it with a radio. At the bottom of the page is a live view of planes flying overhead now that uses the OpenSky API.

It's not really an SDR but I've also got a flipper zero which is a lot of fun. I'm waiting for a couple of other flipper-esq devices to arrive from kickstarter... the Monstatek M1 and the BLEShark Nano.

For non-radio, use adminatdomaindotcom and if you're not a scammer or a spammer I'll get back to you
OK it's a bit wider than over home, but it's a good enough size to usually show a decent number of planes. It uses OpenSky's API to provide live flight data. If you click on a marker, it'll show you the track of the plane.
