My favourite Films & TV Shows.

25 Jan 2026 · My top 5 Films and TV Shows. Not a review of them, just them in order and some of my thoughts about them

Films and TV Shows

This isn't really a review of the films, but I've wanted to make a list for a while. I've thought long and hard about this. I've decided to rate the things on here based on how often I watch them. I think that's probably the most honest way to rank these things. Otherwise there might be an element of high brow drift. As this site is just for me, it should be as true a reflection of my favourites as possible.

I've picked and ranked my 5 favourite films and TV shows. Outside of the top 5 I've included all the others that I consider to be favourites, but I've not ranked them, they're in no particular order, they're all what I consider favourites and if I watch any of them I enjoy em. Getting to 5 was tough and this website is just for me and just for fun, so top 5 it is.

Films

I watch films when I'm alone, when I'm with Mrs T, with the kids, and even all together. I also sometimes put them on as background noise when I'm working on something. Everything in the list has different purposes, triggers different memories and thought processes. Anyway, onto the list.

Number 1 - The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is my favourite version of Batman. This is my favourite film of the Dark Knight trilogy. The film is just about perfect, it ticks so many boxes and it's my number 1. The visuals are great, I love how it chops between widescreen and square format during some key scenes. The story is great, usual good vs evil story with a side plot of love triangle, with Batman gadgets rubbed in for good measure. The Batman & Joker characters on display are for me the best versions of themselves.

The Dark Knight was the last film we watched before Fin was born. It was one of the first Blu-Ray discs we bought. I've probably watched it 100 times and will happily watch it again and again.

Number 2 - The Martian

The Martian

This is our Sunday night classic. It's a science fiction with enough reality that it's plausible. Stuck on a Mars, all alone, how would you survive? The visuals are wonderful, the film is set on Mars so there's a mixture of huge open scenery, cramped Martian rover and life support habitat. The story is told from three perspectives. 1) Mark Watney on Mars. 2) The NASA team trying to rescue him. 3) His crew mates.

The story is a wonderful blend of emotions, there's humour, tension, drama & science (I appreciate science isn't an emotion). Everything is nicely wrapped up by the time the credits role.

Number 3 - Back to the Future

One of the first films I remember going to watch at the cinema. It's my golden oldie in the top 5. I've been enjoying BttF since 1985 - 40+ years ago! The story, characters, visuals and music are great. You know the story, Marty McFly is sent 30 years into the past during a time machine test and has to get back to the future!

I've got this film on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray. The trilogy gets rated by me in the running order, #1 is my favourite. #2 is also awesome, but hasn't aged as well. #3 is the weakest of the three, but still enjoyable.

Number 4 - Zombieland

Zombieland

My favourite zombie flick. Columbus & Tallahassee fight their way across zombieland to Pacific Playland. It's a funny film, with plenty of zombie action and a bit more than a cameo from Bill Murray. The sequel 'Double Tap' is another cracker. There's some moments of emotion thrown in for good measure and the soundtrack is splendid. There's a scene that has the wonderful 'Two of the Lucky Ones' by The Droge & Summers Blend, when you goto youtube to listen to the song, almost every comment thanks zombiland for introducing them to the track.

Google dance scene song from zombieland & you'll find this gem.

Number 5 - Pulp Fiction

I have 14 tickets from 14 visits to the cinema to watch this when it first came out. Very much a growing up film for me. It's so popular there's no point me trying to summarise the story! Nothing else quite like it for me, epic soundtrack, great story, many memorable moments. Watching it reminds me of so many great experiences watching it. A worthy 5th place in my top 5.

Other favourites in no particular order

The top 5 are all crackers, I enjoy them all. The rest of the list is below. They're all great films that I can watch again and again.
