My selection of USB chargers

My chargers

This isn't really a review of the chargers, more just me documenting them (remember, experimenting with a website). Almost all of the devices we ever take anywhere are in some way shape or form USB powered. Laptop, USB. Phones, USB. Switch, USB. Torches, USB. HackRF, USB. You get the picture. Most of the USBs are USB C, there's still a few stragglers on Mini or Micro, but mostly C.

Some of the devices are very fussy about the power they recieve (I'm looking at you Ally, Switch, Pi5 & Pixel phones), so a decent USB charger is a must. To be fair to the Pi5 it works fine with most chargers, some make it flash the low power symbol, but if you're just watching a movie, it's fine.

I've settled on C7 (figure 8) wall outlet to charger as my preferred interface, all the chargers here use that with the exception of the Ugreen one, that plugs directly into the wall. For new chargers it's as close to a standard as you're likely to fine. Saying I settled on it probably isn't right, the industry has settled on it might be more appropriate.

Up until this year we mostly stayed in the UK for holidays, so this one is still quite new, I got it in May 2025, before our trip to Poland. Round the back of the charger is a swappable mains connector. It has fold out prongs that connect directly into an American outlet. With the pins folded up it connects to various face plates. It came with a UK 3 pin connector for the UK and a European 2 pin connector for Europe. It's input voltage is anything from 100 to 240V at either 50 or 60Hz. So works all over the shop.

It puts out 65W on USB C1. 30W on USB C2. 22.5W on USB A. The maximum it will put out it 65W. If you want to charge a laptop it can power nothing else, smaller devices can share the output, so it will charge a couple of smaller devices at the same time. It's a great charger if you want to charge a couple of small devices. It's big advantage is the multi mains connector, it doesn't need a mains cable. It's also pretty small. It's 92x49x15mm with no wall connector attached so it literally slips into a pocket.
Pros
High Power · Small · Various Input Plates
Cons
Only 3 Ports

Anker PowerPort 6

Anker PowerPort 6.
This is the oldest charger in our collection. I've had it since (I think) January 2021. It connects to mains via a C7 connector and has 6 USB A output ports. It's a multi voltage 100-240V 50/60Hz, so with a plug convertor it'll work worldwide.

It's an older charger without a high output port, it does 60W in total with a port limit of 12W per port. I don't think I've ever connected 6 things to it so I don't know how it deals with it. I imagine each device gets 10W. It only puts out 5V so it isn't suitable for anything that wants more than 5V. It's really a phone only charger.

I've not had any problems using it to charge phones, ipads, kindles etc. Before the days of us having high power USB C devices this was the only charger I needed. As time has moved on, it's been replaced with a newer GAN charger and a newer slim Anker one.

It's pretty compact, measuring 100x70x27mm so it's easy to pack and the 6 ports is handy.
Pros
Medium Power · 6 Ports
Cons
No High Power Ports · No USB C

Anker PowerPort Atom 3

I got this one at the start of 2023. Mains C7 round the back, 2 USB Cs & 2 USB As at the front. It's a multi voltage 100 - 240V 50/60Hz, so with a plug convertor it'll work worldwide.

Its got a 45W USB C that does 5V & 9V upto 45W. A 20W C that also does 5V & 9V upto 20W. 2 x USB As that do 15W. It does a maximum of 65W total output across all ports.

It charges phones, ipads, kindles etc. without issue. It only does 5v & 9V so it can't do soldering irons or anything too funky.

It's a flat cube(ish) that measures 85x90x15mm it's very slim and packs easily into a bag or case.
Pros
Small · Decent Output Power
Cons
Only does 5V & 9V

Nongxiang 240W Charge Station

240W Charger
Amazon no name special 240W charger.
I got this one from Amazon in August 2024. It's an Amazon special generic brand 240W device. The model is Yii-8P-240 which is as generic as it gets! It's got 4 USB Cs and 4 USB As, and connects to mains via a C7 cable. Input is 100-240V 50/60Hz so (like everything else) works worldwide. It will charge anything and do it fast. There's not much to say really. The 5V power is nice and stable as it comes out at ~5.12V on the USB Cs and ~5.08 on the USB As.

I use this one as my main charger when I'm in the office or on-site with customers, it's more than beefy enough to charge my laptop, phone, headphones etc. all at the same time. It charges fussy devices with no drama and has happily powered everything I've ever plugged into it.

It measures 110x65x36mm, so it's fairly compact. It comes with a little plastic stand so you can have it stood up on end if you like. If we're travelling light or I'm not taking my laptop the I usually take the Ugreen one, but outside of those occasions, this is my go to charger. I'd like a black one, but that has zero impact on it's ability to charge devices!

High Power · 8 Ports
