Ugreen Finetrack G

I got a few Tile trackers earlier in the year. The devices are good, but the network is poor (where I've tested it). It's a Tile problem, not a technology problem. Rather than hooking into the ubiquitous Android or Apple way of doing it they've hung their hat on the Tile network. I've been looking for a replacement since being disappointed with the Tiles. I've got a few Ugreen bits, couple of power banks, some cables and a couple of chargers. They're good quality, so when these popped up I grabbed a 4 pack.

Out of the box I had some issues pairing the device to my Pixel 9 (they wouldn't pair), paired no problem to Fin's Pixel 7 and my old Pixel 6. I contacted Ugreen support, and after the third email they sent me a link to a firmware updater for the trackers. Updated the firmware, and boom connected no problem. If you want the software the link they shared with me is here. I don't host this file, I'm just sharing the link to the file they sent to me.

The guide tells you to download the software, run it, then press the button on the tracker 5 times, the update app will recognise the tracker, you click connect, then press start. The tracker will then update its software and beep when it's complete, the on screen bar will swing over to 100% too. When you've updated the tracker(s) reboot your phone. Then fire up the Google Find Hub app press the button on your tracker and it'll connect no problem. I can't understand why this file isn't on the Ugreen support site, surely it'd save them a load of effort replying to emails etc? Anyway update the software on the tracker and they work a treat.

The trackers use Google Find Hub (there's an Apple version too, but we're an Android house) which has billions* of devices contributing to the network (*wild guess by me, I have zero data to back up this wild claim) this means the network of devices has significantly better coverage than Tile's. The trackers work so much better than the Tile devices (where I've tried them). Maybe you live in an area full of Tile app users and your coverage is awesome, but I don't. However there are boat loads of Android devices, everywhere. You decide!

I've got one of the trackers on my keys, one in my work bag and a 'spare' one. They are cheap, I got a 4 pack for £25. There's 2 more packs on their way here. Enough for the whole team. The trackers are 35x35x9mm and they weigh about 11gr. They have USB C charge ports and Ugreen claim a single charge is enough for a year of tracking life. At 4 for £25 they're cheap as chips, £6.25 each, they're pretty much disposable! Stick em in everything you might lose.

The Finetracks don't look as sleek as the Tiles, but they work so much better. You just put them in a bag and forget about them, so who really cares what they look like?

If you want to buy 4 Tile tracker Pros, minimal use I know where there's 4 just sat gathering dust unlikely to be ever used again. I still really like the look of the Tiles but their sporadic coverage means these wipe the floor with them.

If you want a tracker, look no further than these. They're ACE. 5/5

Pros
Cheap as chips · Great coverage · USB C charge · 1 Year battery life
Cons
Iffy out of the box software, but a quick update fixes · None really
