Ultralight Titanium Folding Stove

I picked up this titanium folding stove from AliExpress for our TruckFest trip. I paid about £14 for it. I’ve got a couple of folding stoves and liked them, but they were heavier than I wanted. This titanium one was a no-brainer: including the bag and pot stand it’s about 195 g. The bag is ~180×155 mm with a Velcro strip that keeps the grot contained after use.

Setup is quick & easy: slide the three closed face panels together, slide in the bottom ash tray, click the open faced 'front' panel in drop in a few twigs, and you’re away. Airflow through the stove is decent, so once it's lit there's minimal smoke and the pot stands feel secure. It’s obviously not for gourmet cooking in gale-force winds, but for a reassuring fire, boiling water and quick hot bites it’s spot on. Heat tinting appears after the first burn (normal for titanium) and there’s minimal soot transfer if you keep it in the pouch for storage.

Lovely bluing on the stove after a couple of burns.

The stove sections are pressed so they're rigid and the stove is solid when it's built. I've only used it a couple of times but so far no warping of the panels, so it's easy to put up & down. It supports 1l of water easily with no wobbling or flexing. The ash tray is drilled all over and the closed side plates are slotted and drilled, the airflow is positive from the bottom to the top, even with a good load of twigs. Once it's lit and burning, the front hole makes a good feeder slot for thicker twigs.

Thoughts

The stove is lightweight, stiff and folds completely flat. Plenty of ventilation for good airflow. The bag is a nylon bag, keeps the grot in and everything together with a velcro closing strip. I'm glad I got this one, it's a fine addition to my lightweight (as lightweight as I ever go!) kit. I'm sure there's a million different brands of this same generic stove, mine is a Tomshoo one.
