North Edge Gavia

I've picked up another watch. I don't remember how much it was, but it was pretty cheap. It's a stainless steel watch with a bracelet band. 48mm face with 24mm lugs. It's a dumb (as in it doesn't connect to my phone) watch with some cool features. It's got a compass, an altimeter, a barometer plus all the other watch things you'd expect. It's water resistant to 200M, so wearing it in the shower will be fine!

It's a bit of a chonker at 197gr so you know you're wearing it. It's got a nice sized face that suits my wrist. The screen is mineral glass with a satisfying blue shine when you wiggle it under light. The top half of the screen is grey/blue the bottom is dark blue & hides a small LCD.

It came in a box! The watch was wrapped round a little black pillow, because, you know, little pillow! The strap was too big, I took 2 links out of one side and one out of the other, and now it fits. The strap is marked with a poke this way arrow on each removable link, so that's nice.

Round the back there's some fairly heavy engraving, describing the watch and also providing a picture of a gulls head, maybe it's something else, but it looks like a gull to me! It's also got a recycling symbol, which gave me a chuckle. 4 little screws hold it on.

It's got a little light up LCD at the bottom, the numeral positions, hands and little red accent are adorned in a splendidly glow in the dark paint that's probably turning my arm green and giving me wrist cancer or superpowers.

Thoughts

I like the watch, I enjoy it's style. I like the 4 buttons, even though I'm probably hardly ever going to press them, I still like the way they look. I've not had it long enough to judge how well it keeps time, but it's a modern quartz watch, so I expect it to be spot on. The compass is pretty cool, niche but cool. If I ever find myself wearing this and wanting to know where north is, I'll be sorted!

On my arm
It's a pretty big watch, the design suits casual wear, and for the once in a blue moon that I smarten myself up, I have other watches! I'm pleased with the watch, I've got loads of watches, far more than I have arms, and this one has fitted in nicely. My only gripe and it's not just with this watch, but any of the bracelet watches I have, when they jiggle about on your arm they pull out arm hairs which hurts! Maybe I'll find a suitably heavy duty silicone band, or maybe I'll just man up and get over it, who knows.

Should you buy one? It's impossible for me to answer that question. Have you got the money to pay for one? Do you like how the watch looks? Are you in the market for a dive style watch? Do you like the colours? Do you like bracelet watches? If you answer yes to all of these questions then yes, you should. If you answered no, then I wouldn't! I think for what it is, it's a belter.
